Pulled Jackfruit Sliders

by Karla

The perfect vegan option for your next backyard bbq, classic Pulled Jackfruit Sliders, so good that will fool meat-eaters every time!

Vegan | Gluten-free | Soy-free

Pulled Jackfruit SlidersJackfruit has become a staple in my kitchen. Similar to tofu, it has a very neutral flavor which makes it easy to absorb different flavors. That’s why I use it in different recipes like vegan chicharrones de pollo, jackfruit taquitos, and vegan pulled pork. Hence the Pulled Jackfruit Sliders.

IMG_1360For this recipe, I chose green canned jackfruit, as it’s easier to handle & saves a lot of time. These sliders together really quickly- the jackfruit goes into the oven for 15 minutes, chop & prepare the toppings, assemble and you’ll have a great weeknight meal or bbq meal in less than 30 minutes.

IMG_1363Notes:

  • To keep this recipe gluten-free, use gluten-free bread.
  • Use green jackfruit, if you use ripe jackfruit it will end up really sweet.
  • To remove the brine from jackfruit, rinse pieces thoroughly.

Serves: 4-6 Prep Time: Cooking Time: Nutrition facts: 200 calories 20 grams fat

Ingredients

  • 1 can green jackfruit
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil or olive oil
  • Seasoning: liquid smoke, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, salt & pepper
  • Optional: BBQ Sauce
  • Slider or burger buns
  • Toppings: spring mix or coleslaw, red onion, cilantro sauce, or vegan aioli

Procedure

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Drain and rinse the jackfruit from the can. Rinse very well if your jackfruit was packed in brine. Chop in half the bigger portions and remove seeds, if any.
  3. To a bowl, add jackfruit, oil, and all of the seasoning ingredients. Mix well until everything is combined. Taste & adjust seasonings as desired.
  4. Add the jackfruit to a parchment-lined baking tray, and bake for 15 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, chop & prepare your toppings. I chose baby lettuce, red onion & cilantro sauce.
  6. When the jackfruit is done, remove it from the oven. If you want to add bbq sauce this is the time to do so; just mix in and place in the oven again for 5 more minutes.
  7. When ready, assemble your sliders as desired, and ENJOY!
