Happy Halloween Eve! Nothing says “let’s get into the Halloween spirit” like a mummy-themed recipe with LOTS of garlic to ward off vampires. YUM!

Today we’re elevating the classic garlic bread recipe, by adding two additional ingredients and lots of creativity. Sometimes with the most basic and simple ingredients, we can achieve wonderful recipes, as is the case of this Vegan Mummy Cheesy Garlic Bread.

It’s a delicious appetizer or side, that you can make for your Halloween snack table or spooky dinner. When you make it, you’ll be amazed at how incredibly well these ingredients come together and you’ll wonder why you’ve never tried it before. Needless to say, this recipe can be made any time of the year; it doesn’t always have to look like a mummy.

The recipe:

I swear, making this Vegan Mummy Cheesy Garlic Bread is so simple! You probably already have all the ingredients at hand. You’ll need bread, I used vegan pan de agua, vegan butter, garlic puree, and cashews. As for the eyes, I used sliced black olives, but you can use sliced red jalapenos, black peppercorns, and even capers.

By playing with these ingredients and using good bread, you’ll have a finger-licking good spooky snack prepared in record time. It’s the perfect recipe to prepare with your friends and family, as part of a snack for a movie night, party, or dinner.

Bonus points if you add plenty of garlic to ward off vampires!

Serve Vegan Mummy Cheesy Garlic Bread with:

  • Marinara Sauce
  • Spinach & Artichoke Dip
  • Olive Tapenade
  • Pasta

Notes:

  • Alternatively to making your own cashew cheese, you can use vegan sliced cheese or shredded cheese.
  • Leftovers? I don’t recommend storing leftover garlic bread in the fridge after it has been cooked. It will get dried out.
  • Variation: Mix vegan butter with garlic and vegan parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

Cashew Cheese:

  • ½ cashews, softened for about 2 hours
  • ¼-½ cup water
  • Salt & white pepper, to taste
  • 1 garlic clove
  • ½ tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

  • ¼ cup garlic puree
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Bread of choice
  • 16 black olive slices
  • Optional: Oregano
  • Sprayable olive oil

Procedure

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Cut bread into rectangle slices.
  3. Spread butter on top, followed by garlic puree.
  4. Lightly season with salt, pepper, and oregano if desired.
  5. Briefly toast buttered bread in the oven for about 5-8 minutes.
  6. While that’s happening, to a high-speed blender or bullet blender add all the cashew cheese ingredients. Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
  7. Place cheese sauce into a piping bag with a round nozzle.
  8. Remove garlic bread from the oven.
  9. Pipe the cheese into layers to create a mummy look. Place two slices of black olives on each half for eyes.
  10. Lightly spray olive oil on top, to help the cashew cheese bubble.
  11. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 8-10 minutes on high, carefully watching that they don't burn.
  12. Remove from oven, and serve immediately with marinara sauce. ENJOY!
