This Vegan Caramelized Onion Dip is a creamy and delicious appetizer, for game days, holidays, and gatherings.

Vegan Caramelized Onion DipVegan caramelized onion dip, a delicious appetizer or starter, very easy to prepare. It is ideal for special occasions or for everyday use. A delicious snack is a must for your weekend and this caramelized onion dip is easy to make and finger-licking good.

Notes:

  • To keep this recipe gluten-free and or soy-free, revise the ingredients of your vegan mayo.
  • If you don’t have maple syrup, you can sub for agave, and also for brown sugar but the onions might take a little bit longer to caramelize.
  • The 1/2 cup of vegan mayo can be substituted for 1/2 cup of silken tofu.

Recipe: Vegan Caramelized Onion Dip

Ingredients

Caramelized onions:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 yellow onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1tbsp maple syrup
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Dip:

  • ½  cup cashews, softened
  • ½  cup vegan mayonnaise

Procedure

  1. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat, then add the onions and garlic. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes stirring constantly. Turn down heat to low so they don't burn. Remove the lid and stir in the maple syrup and salt. Cook, and stir as needed, for another 10-15 minutes until the onions have caramelized.
  2. Use a bullet blender, immersion blender or food processor to combine the softened cashews and vegan mayonnaise. Then add the caramelized onions and pulse a few times or stir to incorporate. Chill in the fridge in an air-tight container for about 1 hour (or overnight) to thicken. Serve with chips, veggie sticks or with some vegan pierogis for dipping.
