Vegan BLT Sandwich

This Vegan BLT sandwich is made with seitan bacon, veganaise, tomato, avocado, and greens. A version that’s 100% healthier and lighter than the traditional recipe, you only need 6 ingredients and 10 minutes to make it!

VeggieJeva- Vegan BLT Sandwich

Today, we’re veganizing an United Statian classic: the BLT. This sandwich is probably the definition of TOP Tier sandwich, composed of Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato (BLT). It’s super easy to veganize, just substitute the bacon for a vegan version and the mayo for veganaise. The freshness of the greens combines perfectly with the acidity of the tomato and the intense flavor of the vegan bacon.

There are a couple of bacon options for this recipe, you can choose between: seitan bacon, eggplant bacon, tempeh bacon, carrot bacon and coconut bacon. For this recipe I chose to use store-bought seitan bacon, but any other option can work as well.

For assembling, just toast the bread and add the ingredients in layers. First, spread the veganaise, then add the vegan bacon, tomato, and lettuce (or a mix of greens); as a bonus, you can also add some avocado, and top with some salt & pepper.

Notes:

  • To make this recipe gluten-free, use gluten-free bread and any of the vegan bacon options that it’s not seitan (seitan is pure gluten).
  • Looking for a veganaise-free option? Try using hummus as a substitute.
  • For a soy free option, avoid using tofu bacon or tempeh bacon. 
  • Elevate this recipe by using sourdough bread & vegan aioli
  • Although best when fresh, you can make this recipe ahead of time; it can hold up to a few hours.

Recipe: Vegan BLT Sandwich

Ingredients: 

  • 2 slices vegan-friendly bread
  • 3-6 slices seitan bacon (or vegan bacon of choice)
  • Vegan mayonaise
  • ¼  of an avocado, sliced
  • Tomato slices
  • Lettuce (or greens of choice) 

Procedure: 

  1. First, start off by cooking the vegan bacon, and then toasting the bread. This 
  2. To assemble sandwich, spread veganaise on the toasted bread slices. Then top one piece with vegan bacon, tomato, avocado and lettuce. 
  3. Top with other piece of bread, and ENJOY!
